Jog-On 2 – New FX Routing Features

As I mentioned in the last post about the new Jog-On 2 layout, you now have much more control over FX and FX routing than in the previous version. Let’s have a closer look at this…

Firstly, you can use the Deck Switching controls to choose between the 4 available decks: Deck A & C on the left and Deck B & D on the right. Decks A & B (shown in green) are Standard / Stem decks and Decks C & D (shown in blue) are Remix Decks / Step Sequencers.

The chosen deck can then be routed to any of the four FX Units. In the example below, I’m routing Deck A to FX Unit 1 and Deck D to FX Units 2 and 4:

Using the tab buttons, you can switch between FX 1 / FX 3 (on the left) and FX 2 / FX 4 (on the right). The selected tab will then allow you full control of that particular unit’s Dry/Wet, FX Amount and On/Off controls by using the sliders & buttons below. Pressing the ‘On’ button will turn on the FX slot momentarily. Holding ‘Shift’ and ‘On’ will toggle it on/off. Holding ‘Shift’ and moving the sliders will let you select the effect type for each slot.

Furthermore, in addition to the FX Amount sliders, you also have dedicated FX buttons and X-Y Pad controls on both Decks A and B.

These can be routed to any of the FX Units. The ‘FX A’ control consists of eleven buttons, each mapped to the On/Off button and relative FX Amount of the FX Unit’s first effect ‘slot’ (much like the ‘Mash’ controls on the original Jog-On). Each button allows you to momentarily turn the effect on at a given FX Amount between 0 and 10. This is particularly useful for the Beatmasher effect, with individual buttons controlling each of the different beat repeat divisions in the effect. But this works well with other effects too, eg., Beatslicer, Gater or Turntable FX.

The ‘FX B’ control is an X-Y pad allowing simultaneous control of the second and third FX ‘slots’ in the routed FX Unit. Meaning that, when the FX Unit is set to ‘Group’, you can control two different effects at the same time using just one finger movement. Reverb and Delay work well together here, as do Flanger and Gater or Filter LFO and Gater.

It’s much easier to demonstrate this by actually *showing* you how it works than trying to describe it, so I’ll be making a video soon to demonstrate the new FX routing and controls. I’m planning to write a new blog post every Friday so, all being well, I’ll be back next week with a demo video.

The Jog-On 2 layout and Traktor mapping will be made available when the new TouchOSC is released this year.
