The Slideshow device is intended for creating an automated, dynamic visual slideshow to accompany an Ableton DJ set or live performance.
It allows you to drop in a whole folder of images which are split into two groups and then crossfaded between, either manually or automatically. The resulting slideshow is displayed in a popup window and also outputted through Syphon (Mac only). You can control the length of time each image is displayed for and the length of the crossfade itself. Each displayed image can also be zoomed and panned independently. All controls are mapped to Push 2 and can be fully automated in Live.
Also, rather than having to use automation to control zooming and panning, there’s now a ‘Manual / Auto’ switch that’ll do the zooming and panning for you. You can still automate zooming and panning, but if you’re just after a quick and dirty Ken Burns effect, you can now do this with just one button click.

Updates
v1.2:
- Crossfade movement is no longer stored in Ableton’s Undo History (prevents Auto Crossfade from flooding Undo History).
- Current images folder is now saved along with your project. Reopening the project will now reopen the correct folder and load the images automatically. Similarly, when instances of the device are saved in the User Library as presets / .adv files, the correct folder will open along with them.
v1.1:
- ‘Manual / Auto’ switch. Set to ‘Auto’, this will override all manual zoom/pan settings or automation and will ’animate’ each slide with a kind of Ken Burns effect. With ‘Auto Crossfade’ also set to on, each time a new image is loaded a random point on the image will be selected. The displayed image will then smoothly zoom in and out from that set point.
- ‘Intensity’ dial. This affects how quickly and how much the displayed image zooms in and out when ‘Move’ is set to ‘Auto’.
- X/Y pads for each slide to control panning.
- GUI redesign.
- Zoom range changed. You can now zoom between 10% size and 300% size for each slide.
- Fixed crashing problems when automating Slide selection dials.
- Bound mode added for each slide. When zoom is below 100%, you can choose how the border around the image will be displayed:
- Wrap: image is repeated inside the border.
- Clip: border filled with the colours from the outer edges of the image.
- Fold: image is repeated and mirrored inside the border.
v1.0:
Tips:
- Make sure all images are the same size, or at least have the same dimensions (eg., 4:3, 16:9, etc) to prevent images being stretched.
- Make sure the Fade time is always set to be lower than the Length to avoid problems.
System requirements:
- MacOS – 64bit OS.
- Ableton Live 9+
- Max For Live (included with Ableton Live Suite)
